文部科学省科学研究費補助金「新学術領域研究」3次元半導体検出器で切り拓く新たな量子イメージングの展開

Greeting

Representative researcher,
Prof. Yasuo Arai, KEK, IPNS

The present Scientific Research on Innovative Areas provides a unique opportunity gathering many researchers from various research fields such as cosmology, particle and nuclear physics, materials sciences, for the researches as a core of the technology for quantum imaging detector. Like any other areal researches, it does not mean pursuing research toward a specific scientific goal.

In our areal research project, while promoting collaboratively a new detector development based on the Silicon-On-Insulator (SOI) technology, well-experienced research members are aiming at scientific breakthroughs in their research fields by designing detectors specific to their own purpose. Unfortunately, it is nowadays quite general to use commercially-available detectors developed abroad for the scientific researches in our country. We believe, however, that when you really want an innovation in your research fields, it is indispensable to design the detectors by yourself by thoroughly understanding all the details on the detection principles.

Of course, for realizing such a real innovation, we need cooperation not only of researchers but also of companies which have state-of-the-art technical capabilities. It is also important to cooperate with researchers around the world. The development of a new detector cannot be done in a short term. It requirs continuous efforts in a long term by organizing people from different fields and various technologies.

We would like to contribute to the improvement of scientific and technological strength of Japan in the future and the training of as many young researchers who have a passion for this kind of research as possible. We believe that our present areal research project bringing together people and technologies would produce scientific outcomes that Japan boasts about to the world.

We are sincerely expecting your warm support.
