B01:Pioneering High Resolution X-ray Imaging to Search for First Black Holes in the Universe

Our scientific goal is to search for the first population of supermassive black holes in the early Universe, and to reveal the history of cosmic structure formation. In order to achieve the goal, it is essential to realize high-resolution imaging-spectroscopy for faint sources located at high redshifts. We are developing SOI pixel sensors with event-driven readout function, with which we can drastically reduce backgrounds compared to currently used sensors. We aim to realize wide-band coverage by thick depletion layers and back illumination, superior energy resolution at the Fano limit, and wide field-of-view with fine pixel resolution. We will also plan to develop on-chip analog-to-digital converters to simplify the whole detector system.
